Duale Opens AfDB Climate Action Workshop in Nairobi, Highlights Kenya’s Management in Climate Adaptation

NAIROBI, Kenya Nov 28 – Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale inaugurated the two-day African Development Bank (AfDB) Climate Action Window (CAW) Adaptation Workshop in Nairobi, reinforcing Kenya’s management in Africa’s local weather motion efforts.

Kenya has dedicated to slicing greenhouse fuel emissions by 32% by 2030, guided by up to date Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and regional motion plans. However, these ambitions are hampered by insufficient local weather financing—a problem that extends past Kenya to the complete creating world.

The AfDB estimates Africa wants $60 billion yearly for local weather adaptation, but present funding falls considerably quick. Initiatives like CAW goal to bridge this hole, focusing on $13 billion for the continent’s adaptation and mitigation tasks. Notably, 75% of CAW’s assets are devoted to adaptation, reflecting Africa’s urgent priorities.

In its first 12 months, CAW funded 41 tasks value $322 million, leveraging a further $1.6 billion in co-financing. Kenya has benefited from these efforts, internet hosting a number of revolutionary tasks, together with the $4.4 million Kenya Electric Cooking Market Development Program, which mixes local weather adaptation with sustainable power and financial progress.

Other audio system on the workshop included UN Resident Coordinator Dr. Stephen Jackson and UNICEF Country Representative Shaheen Nilofer, who emphasised the significance of partnerships in attaining Africa’s local weather targets.
